Displays or also displays with serial interface are called "serial displays". The serial interface can now be a RS-232, a SPI or also an I²C bus. Serial control requires only a few pins on the controller and can therefore also bridge longer distances (RS-232 / RS-485). Functions such as deleting or positioning the cursor, and in the case of graphic-capable displays also the display of graphics and icons, are carried out via the serial interface.
